Woodie Satterwhite Guestbook

Kimberly Burk

My parents, brother and myself lived next to Gene & Woodie in Andrews, Texas. They were both very sweet and good neighbors. We were avid campers, so we shared that with them. Woodie always had a good story and Gene always brought (or made) something for my Mom or our family from their travels. We lost my Mom in 1985, but my Dad (Mel Funk) kept in touch with him through the years. Our thoughts & prayers go out to all of his family. We will miss him!

Woodie was such a lovely gentleman. I was lucky to have spent time with him on numerous occasions. He was my grandmother Mary's best friend in the last decade or so of her life. He made her smile like no one else and made us love him the second we met him. I loved his big hat and his southern accent. He was a true treasure and will be missed by all of my family. Thank you Woodie for your sweet generous spirit and all that you were to my beloved grandmother. My thoughts are with all who are touched by this great loss. Rest (and dance) in peace.

Woodie was our Mom's dance partner, companion, best friend, and guardian when they were both in their later years. He represented a rare combination of toughness, sensitivity, and dignity. I learned to respect Woodie and to be grateful that he and my Mom found each other. They made eighty seem young, and they could out-dance us all. Thanks, Woodie, for making all our lives easier and fuller.

Woodie was my mom's dance partner and best friend for about 10 years. They traveled together and cared for each other. My mom, Mary Hensley, passed away last April 30, 2006. I called Woodie in mid-February. He said he was doing fine, still driving, though not dancing. He sure sounded fine. I'm so glad I got to talk to him. I just was not expecting him to be gone so soon, even though I know he was getting up there and having some health problems. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. Thanks to my cousin Cherie in San Angelo for letting me know. Woodie was a kind and gentle man. A gentleman, too. He was one of the best things that ever happened to my mom. I hope that he and Mom have already resumed the Texas two-step up there in heaven.
