Deedy Adams Guestbook

Nancy Dalton

I worked with Deedy the one year that she taught at Jasper High School. The year ended for Deedy, when on the last official day of school when she came with her bags packed and then drove herself to the hospital after the last class was done to give birth to her first child. Then she was off to see the world with her military husband, and I was off to learn to live in the big city of Houston. Although we had not seen each other since those days in 1973, we kept in touch at first by letters, and later by Christmas cards. Nevertheless she was always in my heart as one of those really neat people who impacted me positively early in my teaching career. Her positive attitude and enthusiasm for teaching and for her students was contagious in our group of friends. I looked forward to the birth announcements and change of letters that arrived through the years, and later to the family photos that came in the Christmas cards once she was back in Kilgore. She so loved her family and was so proud of all her children. That's the point I guess of this rambling: I want them to know how much they meant to her.

Just picked up an old newspaper and saw Deedy's obituary. She was one of my favorite people ... I was one of a loyal group of adults that signed up for the first nightime French class she taught... And we'd all sign up again each semester because she was so much fun! We all loved her. She took us on field trips and went way beyond anything Kilgore would have ever expected a teacher to do. I still quote funny things shed say to get us to remember a French word or expression. (And Everytime I see a diet coke I think of her. )She was a beautiful person inside and out.

Williams/Adams family,
What a wonderful service on Saturday morning. I have to commend Rader Funeral Home, Deedy's children and Deedy's detailed planning. It was a lovely gathering to celebrate her life. She was so full of energy and passion for many things, and I know the children and grandchildren will honor her legacy.

Family and Friends,
You know how much fun Deedy was and included everyone in it. She kept too many irons in the fire, for most people. But she handled it with that infectious laugh and tossed that red hair. I'll miss her.

Deedy will always be Madame Adams to me. She was a sweet, funny lady who knew how to live life to the fullest. French class with her was so much fun, from field trips to see Les Mis and eat at La Madeleine's, to cooking for holiday potlucks, to watching all those films. I got to travel abroad alone for the first time when our whole class dropped out of our trip to Europe. Later, she and I bonded over our love of Japan, Norway, and New Orleans. I'll always picture her with a miniature can of Diet Coke in her hand, talking about Patrick Swayze.
